About Artist: Cindy Sherman (1954-) is an American Photographer known principally for her conceptual portraits. Cindy Sherman was born in New Jersey and grew up in Long Island. Sherman enrolled at Buffalo State where she took basic classes in drawing, painting and photography. After failing a photography class due to her difficulty grasping aspects of technicality, she decided to major in painting. Cindy Sherman returned to Photography under the tutelage of Barbara Jo Revelle who inspired her to just take pictures without unnecessary focus on the technical side. This changed Sherman's view of photography and convinced her to eventually Major in photography.
