About Artist: Dominique Labauvie was born in Strasbourg, France in 1948. In 1985 he has his first one-man show at the Gallery Jordan in Paris. In 1986, Dominique Labauvie receives the Rome Prize for Germany and spends one year working in Freiburg/Breisgau, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Berlin. Since 1977, Dominique Labauvie has received numerous commissions for Public Sculptures in Europe and the United States. In 1997 he is commissioned by the City of Paris a monumental cast iron sculpture “Suspended Skyline” which is installed on the Quai de Seine at the entrance to the Park of the Villette. In 1999, he installs “Over the Cities” at the Vandenberg Airport in Tampa, commissioned by the Hillsborough Aviation Authority. 2001 brings him a retrospective exhibition of his sculpture and drawing at The Coral Springs Museum in Florida. Labauvie is commissioned in 2008 “Embracing and Embraced”, for the entrance to the new wing of Tampa General Hospital. In 2009 Dominique Labauvie receives the Gottlieb Foundation Award Grant in honor of his artistic achievement. He has his first New York solo exhibition, “Turning Point” at Haim Chanin Fine Arts in January 09, and participates in the Exhibition: Carving the Way to Creativity: Contemporary Woodcuts” at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg where his print enters into the Museum’s collection. In August of 2010, “Musical Lines in My Hand” opens at the new Tampa Museum of Art.
