About Artist: Georg Baselitz is a German painter, printmaker and sculptor. His style is considered by Northern Americans to be Neo-Expressionist but from a European Perspective he is seen as postmodern. Early in his career he rebelled against the trend of abstract painting. His work at this time was often visually or symbolically sexual, considered by some to be disturbing. Baselitz was known in the late sixties and early seventies for painting his subjects upside down, this was a way to loosen the immediate focus on the subject-matter and emphasize form.
