About Artist: Gerald Laing (1936--) was born in Newcastle, England. After serving in the army in Belfast, he enrolled at St Martin's School of Art. Laing is considered part of the original group of Pop artists; his portrait of Brigitte Bardot is consistently featured in Pop Art retrospectives. Laing lived in New York for a time before settling in the Highlands of Scotland to focus his efforts on sculpture, during period he undertook high profile commissions such as the figures at Twickenham station and the bronze twin dragons at the exits of London's Bank station.
