About Artist: James Ame (Ame72) b.1972 Who are you? James, full time artist since 2001, Father of two, born in England, currently resident in Tel Aviv. Why 72? Ame72 (pronounced Aim) is my 'street' name, the 3 middle letters of my first name followed by the year I was born, it's an old skool graffiti thing. James Ame is my 'artist' name, it's not my real name as such, a bit like Reginald Dwight calling himself Elton John. Background check Having painted graffiti and street art since 1985, I have developed a style which is a creative mix of Urban, Contemporary and Pop Art. Showtime I am most humbled to have been given the opportunity to exhibit my work in renowned museums, galleries and auctions around the world, and been featured in numerous publications, including the iconic book, 'The Cult Of Lego'. Why make art? Making art has it’s highs and lows, frustration and elation, but above all it’s the euphoria of creating something from nothing into something I can look at which makes me feel alive. What inspires me is emotion and reaction, to create art which releases an emotional response and then for the viewer to react to it. The LEGO connection At the young age of 5, our family TV crackled a little then died a very quick TV death, my Father decided there and then, no more TV set, hence, my early childhood was spent playing with LEGO and painting, not watching TV. I use the mini figure, a timeless character who never grows old. This little mass produced plastic robot sends out a message though simple humor. My LEGO street art let to a collaboration with LEGO to create a Limited Edition Art Set made of 149 LEGO bricks. Instead of just hanging on the wall, the customer could re-arrange the front design to create a different artwork. Things that melt My Melted artworks represent the feeling of euphoria you get from the personal moments in your life when you discovered, learnt, achieved, overcame or felt something new, these moments are the building blocks of life. Like each and everyone of us, each melted artwork is unique, therefore, relates to a unique moment in the life of the viewer.
