About Artist: Kathy Kissik’s mixed media works incorporate her own photography as well as paint, plaster, epoxy and found objects. Her assemblages evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing, decay and the passage of time. Kissik’s subjects range from Gothic cathedrals to Venetian canals to aging factories. Bodies of water and city streets are common in Kissik’s work, as symbols of passage through space and time. Whether an antique monument or an abandoned modern structure, each subject has a history and invokes us to remember, to imagine, to dream. Kissik was born in Rhode Island in 1968 and studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University. She has received numerous awards including two grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and two from the Paul Fleck Foundation. She is currently an artist-in-residence at the South Florida Arts Center in Miami. Kissik’s work has been exhibited throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe and is included in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Progressive Corporation and the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, as well as many others.
